Making our invitations- help!

So in order to save money Brian and I decided to just make our own invitations. Seemed like a good idea at the time. We spent all day today printing things like the response cards and the rain site cards and have finished up everything except for the envelopes.

This is where we ran into trouble. We have no inner envelope. Didn't really think too much about it when buying the DIY invites...other than to think, well that's less paper wasted.

But now we've realized just what that inner envelope was for- writing out the name of each person who is invited. Like kids. Now that we only have the outer envelope, which will say Mr. and Mrs John Doe...where they heck do we put little Johnny Doe?

One friend suggested we simply say "Mr and Mrs. John Doe and family." But that leaves it a little too open for them to bring along a second cousin who we hadn't factored into the guest count.

Another suggestion was to hand write all of the family member names on the response cards ourselves so that they know just who is invited. Is this tacky?
